Dogs on film! Welcome to the Top Dog Film Festival, where our four-legged friends are the stars of the show.
The Top Dog Film Festival was created in Australia in 2017, with the aim of showcasing the incredible bond between dogs and their people through independent films from around the world. Each year it features over two hours of heart-warming short films about our canine companions, from pampered pooches to hard-working huskies.
The Top Dog Film Festival had its UK premier in Edinburgh in 2019, before visiting another 13 venues around the UK on its inaugural tour. While we’re sad not to be seeing our dog-loving communities in person this year, we’re delighted to deliver 2020’s tour in this brand-new virtual format, so you can watch from the comfort of your sofa – and dogs can watch too!
This is also the first year that the films are available to watch in Ireland, which is even more of a dog-loving nation than the UK – in 2019, 35% of Irish households included a dog, compared to 24% in the UK.
The Top Dog Film Festival UK and Ireland tour supports the fantastic charity Dogs for Good, which provides assistant dogs for adults and children with disabilities. Find out more about its life-changing work here.
And the Top Dog Film Festival UK team wouldn’t be complete without our own top dog, Gilbert the cockapoo. Gilly loves being on the road with the touring team, even making a guest appearance on stage! He also enjoyed helping out with our virtual shows, and when he’s not busy running film events, he loves walkies (see image 1), cuddles and playing with his favourite toy, Ducky.
